France Sets Guinness World Record for Largest Cheese Fondue
Over 2,100 kilograms of cheese delighted more than 5,000 attendees at the Fort des Rousses in the Jura region.
- The record-breaking fondue weighed 2,177.5 kilograms and occupied a volume of 2 cubic meters, surpassing the previous unofficial Swiss attempt of 1,440 kilograms in 2009.
- The event, held on February 22, 2025, was the culmination of a year-long preparation led by Jean-Charles Arnaud, president of the Juraflore cheese company.
- Ingredients included 40 wheels of aged Comté cheese, garlic pulp, white pepper, cornstarch, and wine, prepared in a custom-made copper cauldron using a giant mixing robot.
- The Guinness World Records judge confirmed the fondue met all criteria, including being served hot with at least 60% cheese content.
- Organizers emphasized both quantity and quality, with renowned sommelier Philippe Faure-Brac ensuring the accompanying wines complemented the dish.
