France Reports 646 Antisemitic Acts in First Half of 2025, Down 27% From 2024

The release coincides with foreign criticism of France’s response to antisemitism.

Overview

  • The Interior Ministry logged 99 acts in January, 98 in February, 96 in March, 88 in April, 126 in May and 139 in June.
  • The six‑month total fell from 891 a year earlier yet remains well above pre‑October 2023 levels and far higher than January–June 2023.
  • France recorded 1,570 antisemitic acts in 2024 after the post‑October 2023 surge to 1,676, showing a sustained elevation over prior years.
  • Authorities also reported broader religious hate‑crime increases from January to June 2025, with anti‑Muslim acts rising to 181 from 100 and anti‑Christian acts up 12% to 401.
  • The publication of the figures follows public criticism from the US ambassador and Israel’s prime minister, with the ambassador summoned to the Foreign Ministry.
