En France, 268 personnes ont perdu la vie par noyade du 1er juin au 13 août, un nombre globalement stable sur un an, annoncent les autorités sanitaires, qui pointent toutefois des décès d'enfants et adolescents dans les cours d'eau plus fréquents

Overview

  • From June 1 to August 13, Santé publique France counted 1,013 drownings, up 14% year over year, including 268 deaths.
  • Fatal drownings of minors in rivers and other waterways rose to 16 from six a year earlier, with 13 of the victims older than 10.
  • In total, 37 children and adolescents died over the period, with roughly two thirds of those deaths occurring on weekends.
  • Deaths at sea increased to 113 from 81, mainly among adults, and fatalities surged during the June 19–July 6 heat period (86 versus 36 in 2024).
  • Tourism minister Nathalie Delattre urges constant supervision of children and plans an end‑of‑summer meeting with industry to consider concrete prevention measures.
