France Report: Nine in Ten See Job Discrimination, With Youth and Racialized Groups Most Exposed

The 18th Défenseur des droits–ILO barometer shows rising reported risks since 2016.

  • Women face the greatest barrier in career progression, with sex cited in 41% of career discrimination reports and a doubled risk compared with men.
  • Higher education does not shield women, as those with master’s or doctoral degrees report greater discrimination.
  • Prohibited hiring questions persist, with 22% of women aged 25–34 asked about parenthood, while formal complaints remain uncommon due to fear, renunciation or lack of knowledge.
