France Remembers Dominique Bernard on First Anniversary of Arras Attack

A year after his murder by a radicalized former student, the community honors the beloved teacher's legacy and values.

Dominique Bernard, a respected French teacher, was killed by Mohammed Mogouchkov, a former student, in a terror attack on October 13, 2023.
Mogouchkov, who had been under surveillance for radicalization, targeted Bernard for his embodiment of French values and education.
The attack, which also injured three others, was part of a larger investigation into Mogouchkov's connections with extremist networks.
Isabelle Bernard, the victim's widow, has launched a literary prize to honor her husband's legacy and promote tolerance and critical thinking.
A commemorative ceremony will be held in Arras, with government officials and the community gathering to remember Bernard and all victims of terrorism.
