France Refers Shein Childlike Sex Doll Listings to Prosecutors as Company Announces Global Ban

Lawmakers have summoned the retailer within fifteen days following ministerial warnings of a possible market suspension for repeat offenses.

Overview

  • France’s DGCCRF documented sexualized dolls with a childlike appearance on Shein, referred the case to the Paris prosecutor and Arcom, and warned of serious criminal penalties under French law.
  • Shein says it has removed all related listings worldwide, instituted a total ban on sexual doll products, expanded keyword blacklists, temporarily dereferenced its adult category, and created a marketplace integrity unit.
  • Economy minister Roland Lescure said the government could seek to block Shein from the French market in case of repeat violations, citing legal powers for illicit content involving minors.
  • The DGCCRF widened checks to other marketplaces and referred AliExpress to prosecutors; AliExpress said the flagged listings were taken down.
  • Shein is due to face a parliamentary hearing within fifteen days as activists protest the planned BHV Paris opening on November 5, and the company’s French spokesman pledged full cooperation with investigators, including buyer data if formally requested.
