France Probes Live-Stream Death of Jean Pormanove as Kick Bans Participants

Prosecutors ordered an autopsy, with devices and videos seized to clarify what preceded the 46-year-old’s death.

Overview

  • Raphaël Graven, known as Jean Pormanove, was found dead in rented streaming accommodation in Contes after a marathon broadcast that viewers saw end abruptly when he appeared unresponsive.
  • Nice prosecutor Damien Martinelli said multiple witnesses have been interviewed and equipment seized, with no established cause of death pending the autopsy.
  • Kick said it has banned those involved in the broadcasts pending the investigation and is cooperating with authorities while reviewing its operations.
  • France’s digital affairs minister Clara Chappaz condemned months of on‑camera humiliation, referred the case to media regulator Arcom and to Pharos, and reiterated platforms’ legal duties to remove illegal content.
  • Graven, who had more than a million followers across platforms, had featured in extreme challenge streams; two collaborators were briefly detained in January in a separate inquiry triggered by prior media reporting.
