France Marks 10 Years Since the Nov. 13 Attacks With Site-by-Site Tributes and a New Memorial Garden

President Emmanuel Macron leads a daylong remembrance culminating in a televised ceremony at a newly inaugurated garden centered on survivor voices and music.

Overview

  • Macron is scheduled to visit each attack site Thursday, with readings, wreath-layings and minutes of silence from the Stade de France through the café terraces to the Bataclan, before the evening inauguration of the Jardin du 13 Novembre.
  • The memorial ceremony at 18:00 features 1,500 invited guests, a Requiem des Lumières composed by Victor Le Masne for the Radio France choir and the Garde Républicaine, and performances by a survivors’ chorale.
  • Paris landmarks including the Eiffel Tower, City Hall and the statue at Place de la République were lit in blue, white and red, and the ceremony will be broadcast nationally with a giant screen at République.
  • The France–Ukraine match at the Parc des Princes will include a pre‑kickoff silence, a “Football for Peace” banner and Bleuet de France insignia on players’ kits, with nearly 500 police deployed and reinforced stadium checks.
  • Victims’ groups 13onze15 and Life for Paris are central to the commemorations, with their leaders calling the tribute an act of resilience; Life for Paris plans to dissolve after the memorial’s inauguration to avoid locking members into victimhood.
