Overview
- The Commission de régulation de l’énergie (CRE), which proposed the change on Thursday, July 16, has set a 2.5% rise in regulated retail electricity tariffs to take effect on 1 August 2026.
- The CRE estimates the average TRVE level will rise by about €5.98 TTC per MWh, which translates to roughly €26 TTC more per year for a household using 4.5 MWh (from €1,046 to €1,072 TTC).
- The government gave its approval to the increase on the evening of July 16, making the tariff change official and affecting roughly 19.37 million residential customers on regulated contracts.
- A small excise cut for customers with contracted power ≤36 kVA will also apply from 1 August, lowering the accise from €30.85/MWh to €30.62/MWh as set by the 2026 finance law and partially offsetting the rise for those households.
- Household energy costs will also feel separate pressure from gas: reference gas prices and transport tariffs rose on 1 July, and those moves are expected to add about 1.5% to the average gas bill, compounding this summer’s consumer energy burden.
