Overview
- On June 11 in Reims a 37-year-old woman was killed and her 14-year-old daughter injured when a Takata airbag exploded in their 2014 Citroën C3
- Prosecutor François Schneider confirmed that degradation of the airbag’s gas propellant led to metal fragments being propelled into the cabin, causing fatal injuries
- Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot mandated on June 17 the immediate immobilization of all Citroën C3 and DS3 vehicles requiring airbag replacement
- Citroën director Xavier Chardon announced a Europe-wide “stop drive” recall for 441,000 C3 and DS3 units and urged owners to book urgent airbag repairs
- Since 2014 the Takata defect has been linked to millions of vehicles recalled globally and at least 14 deaths in France
