Overview

  • Météo France has placed 14 departments under orange alert for strong thunderstorms, hail and heavy rain as of June 3.
  • On June 1 a supercell in Puy-de-Dôme produced hailstones up to 12 cm in diameter and cut power to more than 4,000 households.
  • Keraunos confirmed a tornado in the Loire department after identifying a 5.5 km corridor of convergent damage through forests and villages.
  • Storm-driven disruptions have forced train cancellations and road closures around Lyon following fallen trees and flooding.
  • Meteorological models indicate the Atlantic low-pressure system will continue to generate unstable conditions and recurring storms through midweek.
