A decree published on June 12 fixes the extension starting September 1, with a December reform to base benefits on household resources, composition and childcare hours required.

Le complément du libre choix du mode de garde va être étendu "à douze ans pour les enfants dont les parents sont isolés", au lieu de six ans actuellement

Overview

  • The CMG extension from six to twelve years applies to children of single parents and takes effect on September 1, 2025.
  • The allowance’s formula will be overhauled on December 1 to factor in household income, number of children and the actual hours of care needed.
  • Under the new decree each parent in alternating custody can claim the CMG proportionate to the time the child spends with them.
  • The Health Ministry’s example shows a family earning €2,000 monthly would see its net childcare costs fall from €350 to €200 per month under the revised calculation.
  • The CMG currently supports about 700,000 families and the age extension fulfills a roadmap pledge announced last autumn by former Families Minister Agnès Canayer.
