Overview
- The CMG extension from six to twelve years applies to children of single parents and takes effect on September 1, 2025.
- The allowance’s formula will be overhauled on December 1 to factor in household income, number of children and the actual hours of care needed.
- Under the new decree each parent in alternating custody can claim the CMG proportionate to the time the child spends with them.
- The Health Ministry’s example shows a family earning €2,000 monthly would see its net childcare costs fall from €350 to €200 per month under the revised calculation.
- The CMG currently supports about 700,000 families and the age extension fulfills a roadmap pledge announced last autumn by former Families Minister Agnès Canayer.
