France Enacts September Rules on Retirement, Sick-Leave Forms, Health Screening and Energy Costs

The changes reflect a push for earlier detection with tighter administrative security.

Overview

  • From 1 September, phased retirement opens at age 60, allowing part-time work with a partial pension for those with at least 150 quarters and employer-approved hours between 40% and 80% of full time.
  • Assurance maladie now requires the secure paper Cerfa for sick leave, with any non-compliant or software-generated forms rejected and returned to the prescriber.
  • Newborn screening expands nationwide to include severe combined immunodeficiencies (DICS), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and VLCAD, bringing the panel to 16 conditions.
  • Blood donation rules ease as the deferral after tattoos, piercings and procedures like acupuncture or endoscopy falls to two months, and dental implantology is no longer a contraindication.
  • Household finances shift as the energy regulator lowers September gas reference prices and income tax withholding becomes individualized for each member of married or PACS couples.
