France Commits to Sending More Missiles to Ukraine, Increasing Pressure on Germany

France has committed to sending new SCALP cruise missiles and hundreds of bombs to Ukraine, increasing pressure on Germany to provide the long-range Taurus missiles Ukraine has long requested.
The additional SCALP missiles will increase Ukraine's ability to launch attacks on Russian assets, having already used them to strike key Russian infrastructure in the annexed Crimean peninsula.
Calls within Germany for the provision of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine are growing louder, with opposition leader Friedrich Merz calling for a Bundestag vote on sending the long-range missiles.
French President Emmanuel Macron has announced plans to deliver more long-range cruise missiles as well as bombs to Ukraine and suggested that he'd find ways to work with Donald Trump if he again wins the White House.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has urged the West to be unified in its backing of Ukraine, outlining the country's needs to beef up its air defense capabilities in talks with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and national-security adviser Jake Sullivan.
