Overview

  • French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will co-chair Sunday’s virtual ‘coalition of the willing’ meeting on Ukraine peace.
  • The meeting is set to take place just ahead of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s White House trip and the group’s full membership beyond its three co-chairs remains undetermined.
  • Participants plan to coordinate diplomatic pressure, military assistance and economic sanctions to guarantee Kyiv’s involvement in any future negotiations.
  • In a joint statement the co-chairs and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen pledged to maintain and intensify punitive measures against Russia until a just and lasting peace is achieved.
  • President Trump has recounted late-night calls with President Putin, President Zelenskyy and European leaders and expressed a preference for moving directly to a comprehensive peace agreement with Moscow.
