• The tax authority started debiting balances on Thursday for taxpayers whose 2024 withholdings did not cover their final income-tax bill.
• Amounts up to €300 are taken in one debit on September 25, while larger sums are split into four equal withdrawals on September 25, October 27, November 27 and December 29.
• DGFiP figures show 13.1 million households owe a balance this year with an average due of about €1,901, while 13.2 million received refunds this summer averaging roughly €1,017.
• Taxpayers without a registered bank account must pay online via impots.gouv.fr, and those expecting difficulties can request payment delays, extended schedules or discretionary relief.
• Since September 1, married or pacsé couples are subject to individualized withholding rates, which can change each partner’s net pay without altering total household tax.
