Overview

  • Framework is adding a mobile GeForce RTX 5070 module that owners can swap into the Laptop 16 in about two minutes, with Nvidia’s participation and backwards compatibility for 2024 systems.
  • The company claims a 30–40% GPU performance uplift over the original Radeon RX 7700S, supported by revised fans, a new heatspreader, and Honeywell thermal interface material to improve thermals and acoustics.
  • A new USB-C PD 3.1 adapter delivers 240W for sustained full-load operation, with four laptop USB-C inputs supporting 240W plus a rear port on the GPU module that handles DisplayPort output and USB 2.0.
  • A second-generation mainboard adds AMD Ryzen AI 300 options up to a 12-core/24-thread Ryzen HX 370 with Radeon 890M at a sustained 45W TDP and expands display output support to four expansion card slots.
  • Preorders start at $1,499 with RTX 5070 builds from $2,199, the RTX 5070 module costs $699 and the 240W adapter $109, batch shipments begin in November, the original Laptop 16 drops to $1,299, and a revamped RX 7700S module is $449.
