Overview

  • Preorders are live starting at $1,499 with first shipments planned for November, while systems configured with the new GPU start at $2,199 and the RTX 5070 module costs $699 with a $109 240W USB‑C adapter.
  • The new graphics module fits existing Laptop 16 units and adds a rear USB‑C port for DisplayPort output and 240W power input.
  • Framework is offering updated mainboards with AMD Ryzen AI 300 processors (Ryzen AI 7 350 or Ryzen AI 9 HX 370), Wi‑Fi 7, support for four display outputs, up to 96GB of RAM and up to 10TB of storage.
  • The company claims a 30–40% GPU uplift versus the original Radeon RX 7700S, noting the laptop RTX 5070 is an 8GB GDDR7 GB206‑based part that differs from the desktop 5070.
  • A revamped thermal system uses a new heatsink, reworked fans and Honeywell phase‑change TIM, and Framework will offer an updated RX 7700S module with the new cooling and reduced pricing; the 2nd‑gen display officially adds G‑Sync while the original remains FreeSync‑only.
