Foxconn to Double AirPods Output at Hyderabad Plant

The expansion reflects Apple’s drive to diversify manufacturing beyond China.

Overview

  • Monthly capacity at Foxconn’s Kongara Kalan site is set to rise from just over 100,000 units to about 200,000 through an overhaul of five assembly lines, according to The Economic Times reports cited by multiple outlets.
  • Foxconn Interconnect Technology is transferring machinery from Vietnam to accelerate the ramp at the Hyderabad facility.
  • The workforce is expected to increase from roughly 2,000 to around 5,000 within six to eight months, with local reports pointing to an early 2026 target for the higher run rate.
  • Total investment for the expansion is reported at about ₹48 billion (roughly Rs 4,800 crore or $575 million) as part of a broader project to build an audio-device hub serving export markets in the United States and Europe.
  • Production began in April and currently includes AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3, following midyear constraints tied to a dysprosium shortage after tightened Chinese export controls.
