Overview
- At around 3pm on August 2, Dashrath Sidar, Chandrashekhar Rathia, Raja Kanwar and Sarna Sinku climbed a cowshed wall inside Korba District Jail using a makeshift rope and scaled the 25-foot boundary wall
- Chhattisgarh police have launched a statewide manhunt featuring checkpoints and drone surveillance as the four escapees remain at large across Korba and Raigarh districts
- Jail officials report that electricity was cut shortly before the breakout and investigators suspect insider collusion may have facilitated the escape
- The four were undertrial in separate cases involving rape charges and offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act
- Calls for stricter prison security oversight have intensified following a similar jailbreak in July at Kerala’s Kannur Central Jail
