Overview

  • Four Maoist cadres carrying a combined Rs 19 lakh bounty surrendered to security forces in Gariaband district on August 17.
  • One defector’s tip-off led troops to a forested hill on Gobra Road where they seized explosives, ammunition and roughly Rs 16.5 lakh in cash.
  • Joint teams later destroyed a Maoist camp near Manepur, recovering rifles, pistols, a belt-fed machine gun, improvised explosive device components, electronics and insurgent literature.
  • During a DRG patrol in Bijapur’s Indravati National Park on August 18, a pressure-activated IED killed jawan Dinesh Nag and wounded three colleagues.
  • Officials say recent defections reflect leadership and financial strains within the Maoist network even as forces sustain counter-IED protocols and rehabilitation efforts to counter ongoing threats.
