Four Men on São Paulo Holiday Release Arrested Over Domestic Violence and Threats

The detainees await custody hearings under a program that grants short leaves for prisoner resocialization.

  • Police report that four beneficiaries of the saidinha were detained on Dec. 23–24 in Sumaré, Pirangi, Nova Odessa and Cândido Mota.
  • In Sumaré, a 29-year-old allegedly threatened his wife with a knife, threw a stone at her face and was arrested after returning home, with the victim kept under medical observation.
  • In Nova Odessa, a man recently released after a robbery conviction was held the same day for threatening his ex-wife by phone and inside the municipal hospital; in Pirangi, a 43-year-old was arrested after threatening a woman for money, with a knife seized.
  • In Cândido Mota, a detainee was arrested after invading a rural property to commit robbery, assaulting and threatening victims and resisting arrest before being subdued by police.
