Overview
- On July 29, gendarmes from the Caen research section and Potigny brigade arrested four suspects in Île-de-France and presented them to a Caen judge on July 31
- On August 1, the Caen prosecutor’s office charged the men with kidnapping, armed robbery in an organized gang and sequestration with acts of torture or barbarity
- Investigators say the assailants held three adults and a four-year-old child hostage in Les Moutiers-en-Cinglais on May 16–17 and attempted to amputate a finger and a toe
- Three of the suspects have been placed in pre-trial detention and the fourth is under judicial supervision as requested by prosecutors
- Authorities are continuing to probe the suspects’ backgrounds and search for additional accomplices linked to the financially driven home invasion
