Four Men Arrested for Stealing 2 Million Dimes from Truck, Charged with Conspiracy and Robbery
Four culprits nabbed in string of 18-wheeler heists, including a major dime heist stolen from tractor-trailer carrying US Mint coins; suspects laundered stolen coins via Coinstar machines and local bank deposits.
- Rakiem Savage, Ronald Byrd, Haneef Palmer, and Malik Palmer were arrested and charged with conspiracy, robbery, and theft of government money for stealing over 2 million dimes from a truck carrying coins from the U.S. Mint.
- The group reportedly carried out a series of 18-wheeler heists, wherein they also stole frozen crab legs, shrimp, meat, beer, and liquor from several cargo trucks.
- The major heist involved a truck carrying around $750,000 worth of dimes parked at a Walmart in Philadelphia. The robbers were able to make away with $234,500, leaving coins scattered across the lot.
- These thieves laundered the stolen coins by converting them to cash at Coinstar machines in Maryland and depositing it in multiple banks in suburban Philadelphia.
- Besides being linked by surveillance footage, the quartet were caught because they texted about each heist and used identifiable vehicles, including a Dodge Ram rented by Savage's father and a white box truck purchased by Byrd.
- The defendants now face several criminal charges, including theft of government money and robbery interfering with instate commerce. If found guilty, they could receive long prison sentences.
