Four Medical Crew Die in Crash Landing at Navajo Nation’s Chinle Airport

Teams from the Federal Aviation Administration alongside the National Transportation Safety Board have closed Chinle Municipal Airport for a joint investigation into the crash of a Beechcraft 300.

Overview

  • The Beechcraft 300 crashed and caught fire around 12:40 p.m. on August 5 as it attempted to land at the remote Arizona airstrip.
  • All four occupants were non-local medical personnel en route to transfer a patient from a nearby hospital.
  • CSI Aviation of Albuquerque has notified next of kin and is working with Navajo authorities following the fatalities.
  • Navajo Police Department officers, tribal fire and rescue services and EMS crews secured the scene and confirmed there were no survivors.
  • Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren honored the fallen responders’ dedication to saving lives and offered condolences to their families and colleagues.
