Four Lanes Reopen on Nicolás Ayllón as El Agustino Clears Long-Occupied Stretch

Authorities pledge sustained patrols to prevent a return of informal occupations after years of Line 2 closures.

Overview

  • ATU reopened the segment between Av. 28 de Julio and Calle Tristán on Oct. 13, restoring four lanes—two in each direction—to ease traffic between La Victoria, El Agustino and San Luis.
  • The El Agustino municipality, supported by the PNP, recovered cuadra 2 by removing improvised stalls, tarps and debris, completing the operation despite some resistance and without major incidents.
  • Residents and transport workers welcomed the clearance but reported ongoing informal activity near the La Victoria boundary and called for stronger security.
  • ATU reported progress on Line 2 works, with Nicolás Ayllón Station at 92.55% completion, Circunvalación at 94.01%, and more than 27 of 35 km of tunnel built, leaving 7.4 km.
  • El Agustino officials said they acted after limited response from the Lima municipality despite ATU’s September notices, and they announced permanent surveillance, new signage, tree planting, maintenance and a plan to formalize street vendors.
