Four Labourers Die of Suffocation in Mumbai Water Tank Incident

Two supervisors arrested for negligence after workers were sent into an underground tank without safety equipment at an under-construction building.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at the Bismillah Space building on Dimtimkar Road in Nagpada, Mumbai.
Four workers—aged between 19 and 38—died from suffocation while cleaning an underground water tank; a fifth worker survived and is hospitalized.
Three of the deceased had entered the tank in an attempt to rescue a fellow worker who initially faced breathing difficulties.
The JJ Marg police have arrested two supervisors, a labour contractor and a building contractor, for failing to provide safety equipment and conducting prior inspections.
Authorities, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade and police, are investigating the case, and legal action is pending post-mortem results.
