Four Killed, Pilot Injured in Northern Manitoba Float Plane Crash

The Transportation Safety Board has opened a case into the de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver crash near Makepeace Lake.

  • RCMP say a float plane went down about 40 kilometres south of St. Theresa Point near Makepeace Lake on Saturday evening after a report came in around 6:45 p.m.
  • Four passengers from St. Theresa Point First Nation—a 49-year-old man, two 50-year-old women, and a 53-year-old man—were pronounced dead at the scene.
  • The 20-year-old pilot sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and received care after responders reached the remote site.
  • RCMP chartered a helicopter to the coordinates provided, while CFB Trenton deployed a search-and-rescue aircraft and dropped two technicians to render medical aid.
  • The Transportation Safety Board confirmed an investigation into the DHC-2 Beaver crash, and Island Lake RCMP said their probe continues with no cause released.
