- NABARD announced on Sunday, June 14 that Bhagaiya silk, Kuchai silk, Munda jewellery and Jharkhand bamboo craft have been granted Geographical Indication tags by the Indian registry.
- The bank says it led a multi-year process that identified each product’s unique traits, organised producer groups, documented traditions and guided stakeholder consultations for the GI applications.
- Officials expect the GI status to help Bhagaiya and Kuchai silk protect regional origin, improve market visibility and let weavers seek premium prices for authenticated silk products.
