Four, Including Two Teens, Charged With Murder in Bronx Basketball Tournament Shooting

The 17-year-old bystander remains in critical condition after the Haffen Park gunfight.

A 32yr old man was pronounced dead at Jacobi Hospital after he was shot in the chest whilst inside of Haffen Park near Burke Avenue and Wickham Avenue in the Bronx on Saturday Aug. 23, 2025. 1927. Overview

  • Two teenagers and two men — a 16-year-old, a 17-year-old, 20-year-old Daeven Reyes and 25-year-old Robert Royal — were arrested Sunday and charged with murder, attempted murder and weapons offenses, with three also facing gang-assault counts.
  • The gunfire during a community basketball event at Haffen Park around 7:27–7:30 p.m. Saturday left five shot, including 32-year-old Jaceil Banks, who was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center.
  • Anthonaya Campbell, 17, was struck in the head and remains in critical condition, while a 30-year-old man, a 29-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man sustained wounds and are stable, police said.
  • Investigators recovered multiple firearms, documented roughly 48 shots fired and six guns recovered, and police say they believe the shooting was gang-related while asking witnesses to contact detectives.
  • The case unfolded in the Bronx’s 47th Precinct, where shootings are up this year despite citywide declines, and the four suspects were awaiting arraignment Monday.
