Four Hikers Rescued in Anza After Fellow Searcher Found Dead

The coroner has not released the hiker’s identity pending the death investigation.

  • Deputies responded Saturday night to the 56000 block of East State Highway 74 in Anza after a report that four hikers had not returned.
  • The Riverside County Sheriff's Aviation Unit and Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit located the four and hoisted them to the Lake Hemet Mountain Station for medical evaluation.
  • An additional member of the party who went to search for the group was later found near the bottom of an approximately 150-foot rock face and was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • The Riverside County Coroner's Bureau recovered the body and assumed the investigation, and officials have withheld the deceased hiker's name.
