Four File in Dampa Bypoll as People’s Conference Says It Will Join the Race

Conflicting signals from the People’s Conference leave the candidate list unsettled until Tuesday’s nomination deadline.

The ZPM, MNF, BJP and Congress have filed nominations, fielding Vanlalsailova, Dr. R. Lalthangliana, Lalhmangaiha and John Rotluangliana respectively.
PC chief Vanlalruata said the party will contest and named vice-president K Zahmingthanga, following an earlier report quoting him as saying PC would not run.
Polling is scheduled for November 11 with counting on November 14, according to election authorities.
Nomination filings close on October 21, scrutiny is on October 22, and the withdrawal deadline is October 24.
The Dampa seat in Mamit district has 20,790 registered voters across 41 polling stations, and the bypoll follows the July 21 death of MNF MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo.
