Overview

• Fire crews arrived around 2:30 a.m. Monday to a multi‑story home on Shultas Place in Hartford and encountered heavy flames.
• Two adults and two children were killed, and four other occupants plus a firefighter were hospitalized with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
• Teams tried to enter through the first floor and then by ladder to the second floor but were forced back by heat and smoke, and a firefighter was hurt after falling down stairs in zero-visibility conditions.
• The house was declared a total loss, nearby buildings sustained mostly cosmetic damage, and displaced residents are receiving help from the Red Cross and the department’s Special Services Unit as aftercare is offered to responders.
