Four-Day Rail Closure Shuts Trains on Rotterdam–Delft Campus Corridor

ProRail says the short shutdown will create a work window for renewing the overhead contact wire, preparing a future Schiedam pedestrian and bicycle underpass, and converting the Sparta-stadion rail bridge to a fixed span

Overview

  • Train services between Rotterdam Centraal and Delft Campus will be suspended for four days and replaced by three designated NS bus routes, with no trains running on the Den Haag Centraal–Delft Campus section.
  • Replacement buses include an express Rotterdam Centraal–Delft Campus service and two stopping services via Schiedam Centrum while fewer sprinters will operate between Rotterdam Centraal and Dordrecht.
  • Passengers using RET metrolijn E must buy a separate metro ticket because NS tickets are not valid on the RET network, a change likely to shift many riders to the metro and increase crowding on that line.
  • Work during the closure includes renewal of the overhead contact wire between Schiedam and Delft Campus, preparatory construction for a future underpass at Schiedam Centrum, and work on the overhead wiring as the Sparta-stadion bridge is fixed.
  • The four-day window is a short, tactical phase inside a larger, phased upgrade programme where the actual tunnel construction for the Schiedam underpass will take place in a later project stage and may affect local cycling and walking links to the Schieveste neighbourhood.
