Four Children Arrested Following Gun Threat and Evacuation at Hamburg School; Toy Weapons Seized

Four students aged 12 to 14 arrested after a police operation in Hamburg school resulting from gun threats; the students, allegedly implicated in the incident, had been spotted with toy weapons, causing school evacuation and police search.

  • On November 8, 2023, German police evacuated a school in Hamburg’s Blankenese district, following a reported gun threat. Two individuals had allegedly barricaded themselves in a classroom, threatening to use a gun.
  • Four children, aged between 12 and 14, were later arrested in connection with the incident. Among them, one of the 12-year-olds and the 13-year-old were specifically implicated in the school threat.
  • The arrest occurred after police were called to another threat incident not far from the school. Two apparent toy weapons were seized during the arrests.
  • The entire situation resulted in a large-scale police operation involving special forces and helicopters. Streets surrounding the school were cordoned off, and parents were asked to pick up evacuated students from a nearby barracks.
  • A criminal investigation was launched, with plans to interview the threatened teacher, eighth-grade students, and other witnesses. This incident comes on the heels of a recent hostage standoff at Hamburg’s airport.
