Four Charged in Hockey-Stick Assault on Student for Speaking Marathi

Vashi police are set to arrest four suspects following completion of the victim’s medical exam with his statement on record.

  • The 20-year-old student was attacked around 10:30 AM on July 22 outside a college in Vashi after asking four men to speak in Marathi.
  • Faizan Naik, identified as the prime accused, used a hockey stick to strike the student’s head while the others kicked, punched and threatened him.
  • The victim, who resides in Pawane village in Airoli, has undergone a medical examination and provided a recorded statement to investigators.
  • Police registered the case under multiple Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections, including charges for grievous hurt by dangerous weapons, criminal intimidation and common intention.
  • The assault followed a controversial April resolution mandating Hindi in primary schools, which was rescinded in mid-June.
