Four Asiatic Elephants Land in Osaka, Head to Himeji Central Park

An Indian specialist team is guiding the elephants to Himeji Central Park to oversee their transition.

  • The animals touched down in Osaka on July 25 and have embarked on a 20-hour road transfer under live-animal transport protocols.
  • This operation represents Bannerghatta Biological Park’s first international relocation of captive elephants in collaboration with Himeji Central Park-Safari Park.
  • Each elephant underwent six months of gradual crate training and was loaded into custom-designed containers stocked with light refreshments for comfort.
  • The journey combined a dedicated Boeing 777-200F cargo flight with an extended overland trip, all conducted according to strict international welfare standards.
  • A team of Indian veterinarians, biologists and mahouts will stay in Japan for one month to support acclimation efforts and train local staff.
