Four Artists Shortlisted for 2026 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize

The shortlist will tour London, then Frankfurt, before a £30,000 winner is named on 14 May 2026.

Overview

  • The nominees are Jane Evelyn Atwood, Weronika Gęsicka, Amak Mahmoodian and Rene Matić, with projects spanning incarceration, misinformation, exile and identity.
  • Atwood is recognized for a revised bilingual edition of Too Much Time / Trop de Peines, drawn from a decade documenting women in prisons across nine countries.
  • Gęsicka is shortlisted for Encyclopaedia, a 2024 photobook reimagining fake reference entries through manipulated stock images and AI to probe visual truth.
  • Mahmoodian’s One Hundred and Twenty Minutes, shown at the 2024 Bristol Photo Festival, and Matić’s AS OPPOSED TO THE TRUTH at CCA Berlin highlight displacement and contemporary British life.
  • The Photographers’ Gallery will present the shortlist from 6 March to 7 June 2026, followed by the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation in Frankfurt from 3 September 2026 to 17 January 2027; the winner receives £30,000 and each finalist £5,000.
