Overview

  • Officers traced a miscopied phone number to Shamli and raided a house on August 16 to recover the 13-year-old.
  • Police arrested Rajeev, 40; Vikas, 20; Ashu, 55; and Ramanjot Singh, 24, a cybercafé owner accused of forging an Aadhaar to present the minor as 19.
  • The girl left home on July 21, was lured at Meerut station, confined, then forced to marry Rajeev on July 24 for roughly Rs 15,000–20,000, after which she was sexually assaulted, according to police and media reports.
  • Investigators seized the fake ID and four phones, and booked the men under relevant BNS provisions, the POCSO Act and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.
  • Police say they are examining possible links to a broader trafficking network, with reports of many other victims unverified and under investigation.
