Four Arrested as Police Foil Boquete Plot at Escobar Banco Nación

Investigators are probing ties to recent boquete attempts, with the four detainees awaiting questioning under UFI Nº5.

Overview

  • An alert from a neighbor to Escobar’s monitoring center triggered a police cordon at a construction site next to the Mitre 600 branch, where the suspects were intercepted before reaching the vault.
  • Police seized cutting tools, an angle grinder, an oxygen tube with a plasma-cutting hose, a signal inhibitor, radios, cellphones and a vehicle linked to the operation.
  • The detainees include Colombian national Jesús López Valdez, 36, who had an active arrest warrant tied to a May attempt at Banco Macro in Ingeniero Maschwitz.
  • Investigators suspect the group is connected to a late-August boquete at Banco Patagonia in Zárate in which intruders entered the branch but left without money.
  • Two officers were injured during the pursuit but are reported out of danger, and the four suspects remain held at Comisaría Escobar 1ª under UFI Nº5 on aggravated attempted robbery charges.
