Overview
- Gwent Police responded to reports of a large disturbance near Mill Road and Hospital Road in Pontnewynydd around 7:15pm on Thursday and arrested four men at the scene.
- Detective Chief Superintendent Anne-Marie Salwey confirmed late Thursday that three men were taken to hospital, with two in a critical condition.
- Armed officers and the National Police Air Service helicopter were deployed to secure the area while investigators imposed road closures and processed the scene overnight.
- Two of the four arrested men remain in police custody as enquiries continue and police have urged anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from about 7pm–7:30pm to contact them or Crimestoppers.
- The visible police cordon and forensic work have unsettled local residents and investigators say further enquiries will determine motive and whether charges will follow, with police warning they will deal firmly with anyone found to have been involved.
