Foul Play Suspected in Danielle Staley Disappearance as Boyfriend Denies Involvement

Detectives now consider foul play possible, requesting surveillance footage from Nov. 5–7.

Overview

  • Staley, 35, was last seen around 11:23–11:30 p.m. on Nov. 6 at a bonfire on Rio Del Mar State Beach near Aptos, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office.
  • Deputies say she is considered at risk after her personal belongings were found on the beach and she stopped communicating with family, which they called uncharacteristic.
  • Boyfriend Alx Nunez says he skipped the bonfire, fell asleep in their camper van, reported her missing the next day, has offered to take a polygraph, and publicly denies involvement.
  • Investigators say Nunez has been cooperative, is not considered a suspect, has been interviewed multiple times, and their camper van has been searched.
  • Sheriff's officials are seeking home, business, and dashcam footage from Beach Drive, Rio Del Mar Boulevard, The Esplanade, and nearby areas from Nov. 5–7, and ask anyone with tips to call 831-471-1121.
