Forty-Seven Officer Candidates Graduate OCS Phase III at Joint Base Lewis-McChord

Over 16 days of intense field exercises, candidate performance under fire determined their eligibility for commissioning as second lieutenants.

Overview

  • On August 7, 2025, forty-seven candidates completed the final phase of the Army National Guard’s Officer Candidate School at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
  • Phase III was hosted by the 2nd Battalion, 205th Regiment, Regional Training Institute and tested leadership through platoon-level infantry tactics in live-environment drills.
  • Candidates entered Phase III after finishing Phases I and II, which covered land navigation, operational planning, military history and timed foot marches.
  • Capt. Christopher Rothwell and the RTI cadre emphasized mental resilience under evaluation stress while maintaining the program’s high training standards.
  • Graduates are now eligible for commissioning as second lieutenants and will assume roles leading Soldiers across Army National Guard units.
