Fort Lauderdale Police Shootout at Hotel Leaves One Dead, Officer Injured

Karl Chludinsky, 46, was killed in the exchange of gunfire after making false 911 claims, sparking a police response.

Fort Lauderdale police released bodycam footage showing a shootout with Karl Chludinsky, 46, at a Holiday Inn Express, resulting in his death.
Chludinsky, who had a history of mental health issues, falsely claimed he had killed someone and that his wife was being raped in texts to 911.
Officer Jack DiCristofalo was shot during the encounter but was released from the hospital after a bullet lodged in his vest.
Chludinsky had been committed under the Baker Act multiple times and had his guns returned to him a year prior after a risk protection order expired.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting, and the involved officers are on administrative leave.
