Forsa Poll Finds Majority Oppose Habeck Return to Politics

The results highlight polarized views of the ex–vice chancellor following his departure for research posts abroad.

Overview

  • Only 35% of respondents would welcome Robert Habeck returning to politics in a few years, while 55% are opposed, according to a Forsa survey for Stern.
  • Support splits sharply by party: 90% of Green voters favor a comeback, compared with 45% of SPD voters, 53% of Left voters, 28% of CDU/CSU voters, and just 3% of AfD voters.
  • A gender gap is evident, with 42% of women and 28% of men saying they would like to see him return.
  • The poll was conducted by telephone on August 28–29 among about 1,004–1,007 people, with a reported margin of error of ±3 percentage points.
  • Habeck has relinquished his Bundestag seat to pursue research and teaching abroad without ruling out a later return, as Chancellor Friedrich Merz criticizes his farewell and Green leaders keep the option open.
