Formula E Secures FIA Exclusivity Through 2048

The new contract underpins Formula E’s long-term growth with manufacturers finalizing Gen4 cars set to debut in 2026.

Overview

  • Formula E extended its exclusive FIA sanctioning to 2048 under a new 10-year agreement that includes an optional five-year renewal.
  • Six manufacturers including Porsche, Nissan, Jaguar, Stellantis, Mahindra and Lola are finalizing Gen4 powertrains under a two-season homologation framework and a €29 million cost cap.
  • The forthcoming Gen4 cars will feature permanent four-wheel drive with 600 kW peak power and 700 kW regenerative output, up from the current 350 kW platform.
  • Current Gen3 Evo vehicles accelerate from 0-60 mph in 1.82 seconds, reach top speeds of 200 mph and recover nearly half of race energy through regenerative braking.
  • Nissan’s Oliver Rowland wrapped up the 2025 drivers’ title early and the series is seeking to broaden its audience ahead of July’s London finale.
