Former UConn Basketball Player Eric Cobb Charged with Mother’s Murder

Eric Cobb, 28, was arrested in Florida after his mother was found shot to death at their home, with witnesses reporting gunshots and a woman’s screams.

Eric Cobb, a former college basketball player at UConn and South Carolina, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his mother, Erika Winford, 51.
Winford’s body was discovered wrapped in blankets and towels in the backyard of their Jacksonville, Florida home, with multiple gunshot wounds to her head, stomach, and leg.
Witnesses reported hearing gunfire and a woman yelling, 'He’s going to kill me,' on the night of the alleged incident, but no 911 calls were made at the time.
Police found firearms, ammunition, and evidence of attempted cleanup at the scene, along with spent shell casings in a trash can outside the home.
Cobb, who has a history of legal troubles and was described by family and friends as showing signs of schizophrenia, is currently being held in Duval County Jail.
