Former Torrance Letter Carrier Pleads Guilty in Multi-Year Mail Theft Scheme

Her plea follows coordinated federal investigations that traced a years-long theft campaign to her position as a Torrance USPS letter carrier.

Overview

  • Mary Ann Magdamit admitted on August 11 in federal court to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud for stealing checks, personal identifying information, and debit and credit cards from the mail from 2022 through July 2025.
  • Investigators seized 133 stolen payment cards, 16 U.S. Treasury checks, luxury goods and a loaded un-serialized Glock-clone “ghost gun” during searches of her Carson apartment in December 2024 and July 2025.
  • Court documents show she used stolen cards for luxury purchases and trips to Turks and Caicos and Aruba, sold some cards to co-conspirators and arranged for stolen checks to be cashed via counterfeit identities.
  • The case was led by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General, the Postal Inspection Service and the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Brown.
  • Magdamit remains in federal custody, has agreed to forfeit a Rolex and other luxury items, and faces up to 30 years in prison at her October 27, 2025, sentencing hearing.
