Overview

  • Casada received a 36-month sentence, which is six months longer than the 30-month term given to his former aide Cade Cothren.
  • A jury convicted Casada and Cothren in May 2025 following a 2022 indictment, and a request for a new trial was denied.
  • The Justice Department said Cothren ran Phoenix Solutions under false pretenses while Casada recruited legislators and facilitated invoice approvals in exchange for kickbacks.
  • According to court filings, payments were routed through Casada’s company, Right Way Consulting, and Phoenix Solutions later took in about $159,496 from campaign and caucus work.
  • The court also ordered Casada to pay a $30,000 fine, forfeit $4,643.60, and serve one year of supervised release after imprisonment, with convictions spanning 14 counts including conspiracy, honest services fraud, and money laundering.
