Williams, Recovering from Colon Cancer Surgery, Joins Reshuffled Staff Under New Manager Bob Melvin

Matt Williams, a former star player for the San Francisco Giants, is returning to the team as the third-base coach under new manager Bob Melvin.
Williams, who spent the first 10 of his 17 major league seasons with the Giants, has previously managed the Washington Nationals to a 179-145 record over the 2014-15 seasons.
Williams is recovering from colon cancer surgery, having been diagnosed during spring training and undergoing surgery on March 31.
Bob Melvin, who was named manager last month, is reshuffling the coaching staff, bringing in his former Athletics and Padres bench coach Ryan Christenson and former big league outfielder Pat Burrell as one of the hitting coaches.
The Giants missed the playoffs for a second straight year since winning a franchise-record 107 games and the NL West in 2021, leading to the firing of former manager Gabe Kapler and the appointment of Melvin.
